Football and Romance

WTF, Kaeding?
I haven’t blogged in so long! Quick update: Last week, I turned in my latest manuscript to my new editor at Bantam Dell, and sent an outline for a new project to my agent. Too nervous to sit still, I decided to paint the living room, and while I was lost in that mindless task, it occurred to me that I should revise last year’s unsuccesful project.
For months, that manuscript has been like a brick wall, impossible to deal with. Painful to consider. But I thought of something I could do with it. I’ll let you know if it works!
In the meantime, I’ve been reading quite a bit. On RRR Jessica’s recommendation, I ordered Tigers and Devils by Sean Kennedy.

The hero, Simon, is a self-effacing sweetheart (an “arty wanker” by his own admission) who falls for an Aussie Rules football player. If you read this blog, you know I LOVE football. I love the way this author talks about football, and how he describes what it means to be a fan.
100 pages in, I realized that Aussie Rules football is…soccer! OMG what a dope I am.
Anyway, this is a nice contemporary romance, and I really like the main character’s earnest voice. I’m in danger of DNFing it, however. The romance is very cute, but the pace is a bit slow. I’m thinking that the relationship develops in a real life way, rather than a fast and furious “romance novel” way. This isn’t a bad thing. I’m just…antsy.
Also, I have RITA books to judge! 8 books in less than 8 weeks. With all of the other things I have going on, I might have trouble getting to all of them if I put it off.
Happy reading, writing, working, whatever!
