Coming out of lurk to share the latest wrong against Romance!
According to Uptown Literati, a site for “cool chicks who love great books,” CRASH INTO ME is the worst beach read endorsed by any magazine this summer. They came to this conclusion after reading the adaptation in Cosmopolitan. FYI, it’s called an adaptation for a reason–Cosmo editors make a ton of changes. Both of the lines cited in the article aren’t actually mine. The title wasn’t my idea either, but I think it’s a great one.
I can’t really take offense to this article, or listen to criticism from someone who hasn’t even read my book. I believe this is just another case of the old “all romance is trash” mentality. Fair or not, sometimes negative press comes with the territory. I’m kind of flattered by the attention! Another new author first. : )
“First, of course, is the steamy excerpt from the latest endorsed trashy novel”
It’s obvious from this statement that this person doesn’t read romance as a genre. And she didn’t read your book, she’s just commenting on what was in Cosmo.
But buzz is buzz, right?
I think anyone who would read that who reads romance wouldn’t take it seriously.
That “Crash Into Me” even got in Cosmo is huge.

Right! I don’t take it seriously either. I just thought that after years of reading similar articles slamming romance, it’s an interesting milestone to see my name mentioned.
It just amazes me that people will pass judgement on books they haven’t even taken the time to read. Given the snarkiness of the article, it seems that both Cosmo and Crash were included soley for bashing purposes, and not really as reviews.
Also, I wandered over to let you know I posted a review over at my place! (And, it’s snark-free.

Thanks so much, Renee. I’m always interested to hear about what works/doesn’t work for a reader who’s actually read my book! : )
Le sigh. These so called trashy books bring joy into my life. Perhaps these people who have a stick up their asses need to read a few of these trashy books.
I enjoy your trashy beach smut. Me wants more
Crash Into Me was awesome. ignore them.
Trash beach smut! Aw, shucks. Thanks Katie.
Hi HelenKay. Thanks for saying that! I’m glad you liked it.
Dude, my 3-step process for handling reviews:
1 - Read it
2 - “Huh.” (Goes for good and bad)
3 - Get back to the WIP
Nothing more annoying than a group of people trying so hard to seem smart and literary that they need to trash stuff they haven’t read.
Real smart chicks make up their minds, faux smart chicks sneer and bully. Meh.
You know I loved Crash Into Me and so did cosmo. But hey, you made a bunch of women with self esteem issues feel better to rip apart something they haven’t bothered to read. Go you!
Oh and congrats on the Cosmo piece, that’s huge.
