Done.
I turned in my rewrite! Yay!!
The last version I submitted with a great deal of confidence, thinking it was the best thing I’d ever written. Imagine my shock when my editor didn’t agree! This version I turn in with a certain amount of trepidation. Have I made the changes she requested? Yes. But–about 75% of this is new material, and the remaining 25% is heavily revised. I don’t know that I’ve fixed every problem to her satisfaction. Without a doubt, I’ve created some new ones.
Maybe someday I’ll submit another manuscript with the feeling that I’ve hit it out of the park. Today is not that day.
However! I’m happy with what I’ve accomplished. I’ve completely rewritten a single-title romance in ten weeks. When I wasn’t cleaning the house (sort of), pottytraining my toddler (so much extra laundry OMG), taking one or both kids to the park, or blogging (couldn’t quit), I was writing.
I have a proposal to finish, but I need to take a short break. I’ve been working every weekend and that’s no way to live! The next few days, I’m looking forward to:
1. READING. My husband bought me a $50 gift certificate to B&N for Mother’s Day. He knows what I like! That baby was spent online within an hour. Just got my delivery today. Books, glorious books.
2. CLEANING. With two kids, I can’t ignore all the housework, so I do what I call “subsistence-level cleaning.” Laundry, dishes, and bare-minimum basics. You don’t want to know how long it’s been since I’ve vacuumed. Seriously, it’s gross. Mindless chores, take me away…
3. SPENDING TIME WITH MY HUBBY. I can’t neglect the children, but I DO slack off on paying attention to Mr. S. So I’ve secured a babysitter for Saturday night, and we’re going on a hot date. I’m going to wear makeup and clothes that don’t double as pajamas. Squee!
4. RESEARCHING MY NEXT PROJECT. I know, I know. It’s work. But it doesn’t seem like work, and I enjoy it. The next book is set in Mexico (a road romance, on the run, Bourne-identity style), and I’ll be taking a virtual tour of Oaxaca.
I’m sure I’ll be blogging like crazy, too. More posts and reviews to come.
