Black’s Beach

Black’s Beach in La Jolla, California, is known for two things: waves and nudity. I’ve only been there once, and I wasn’t aware of its reputation at the time. I didn’t see any dangly bits, either! Just two dudes with clothes on along an otherwise deserted stretch of sand.

I’ll have to go again sometime and see if I have better luck. ;)

The beach is surrounded by high, unstable cliffs. Easy to hike down, hard to get back up. The cliffs provide a nice amount of privacy for these supposed nudists, and also must be partly responsible for creating a killer surfing break.

How do you feel about nude beaches? Do you think nice folks should keep their clothes on in public, or are you more of a naturalist at heart?

Would you go to Black’s Beach, and dare to bare all?

There’s been a bit of a theme going on here these last few days. Yesterday was changing under towels and today full nudity! Heh, heh.

I’ve been to a number of topless beaches in Europe and even sunbathed topless in my younger, more nubile days. Nowadays I wouldn’t do it. I wouldn’t want to suject anyone to my body for a start and secondly I’m just too shy.

I might feel differently if it was a nudist beach and everyone was naked apart from me.

Hi Jenre! Thanks for stopping by. Yes, I’ve been trying to lure bloggers to my photo tour with naked people.

I went to a topless beach several times in Mexico on my honeymoon, but I just couldn’t do it! Chickened out. I was 25 and a bit silly/self-conscious.

Heck, it’s fun to swim naked, but are there people there playing volleyball naked? I’d definitely draw the line at that!!!!

Well, I’d watch a naked volleyball game, but don’t think I could participate. Too distracting!

No nekkid for me, thanks. I like clothes. The more the better.

Hi Lisabea. Yes, clothes are good for me as well. But I do like the idea of being that free, if only just once. Sun on my skin, wind in my hair, etc. I think I was a hippie in a former life. :)

I am not that brave enough to walk nude. Perhaps if someone dared me.

    I dare you, katiebabs. :)

I would go bare on Black’s Beach anytime. I just returned from a gathering of naturists that included a few folks from the Black’s Beace Bares.(BTW: A naturalist is someone who studies nature. A naturist is one who enjoys nature nude.)

    Hi everybody

my wife (25) and me (27) are looking forward for our trip to America. For us a visit at blacks beach is a must. In Germany it is no problem to be nude at some places like sauna or nude beaches – it is just a kind of freedom. Just cant wait for visiting your country!

    Greetings frum Europe

Thanks Jill Sorenson for making a day to come down to my little paradise Blacks Beach. This is a place to be nude and feel safe while doing so. Freedom from judgement. I see people for who they really are, not by what they wear or the color, shape of there body. I get to see the inner beauty.

I go there as often as possible.

The first time I went there (1974), I wasn’t intending to take all my clothes off but after a while, with everyone else being nude, it felt ridiculous to be the only person with clothes on.

Just one caution – while nudity is tolerated at Black’s Beach (there was even a sign saying “clothing optional area” last time I checked), public sex is now a serious offense and if you are convicted you will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of your life. Goodbye, executive position – hello, car wash. So don’t do it.

(By the way, Citizen’s Trail from the gliderport parking lot down the cliff to the beach has been spruced up and is now quite safe, although strenuous. There is still a “do not use” sign at the trail top but it can be safely ignored. Unlike public sex, hiking this trail is NOT a serious offense.) Larry

I was nude on the beach back in the 80s. I’d go nude now but I am sure people would want me to put my clothes back on lol.

I went to Blacks a few years ago. There were about 20 nude folks near the volleyball area (60% males 40% female- all very fit). Most of them were very friendly. But the volleyballers would not let me join the game! Maybe it was just the wrong day to go. The best part of my visit was when a very pretty girl walked up to me and a guy I was talking to, and slowly got dressed while chatting with my new friend. Man what a body! I’ll try again when in CA again. I usually go to Gunnison beach in NJ (on a nice day there is 500 there.

Great blog, I blog about travel INCLUDING places such as Black’s Beach. I’ve been to Hedo II in Jamaica and once nude, your mentality changes.

    Keep up the great work!

Gunnison beach, Your story sounds familiar, I think it was me and my friend that met you on the beach. Glad you had a good time. Come up to me and I will pass with you and get you in a volleyball game, since I set up that volleyball court.

    yaah i can dare

    Hi

for me as a German I am very much surprised about some of the comments here. We in Germany donĀ“t have any problem with nuditity. Its even not allowed to go to a Sauna with cloth ! I have no idea why people wearing “swim cloth” for going to the beach. Always trying to get out the sand between the cloth and the skin… If you just try once ! to be just natural and naked, you NEVER will change again. Do not go to mixed beaches where some people have cloth and others not. Thats indeed not good ! Only go to naturist beaches where everybody is naked. And you will enjoy as never in your life. Here in Germany nobody needs to say this but I guess to Americans I have to mention: Nudidity has NOTHING to do with Sex ! If anybody thinks for sex on nudist beach – better go somewhere else !
